Streaming??? Me??

Posted by FGIJonC - September 25th, 2016

Hey everyone! In about an hour or so, I'll be streaming! What will I be streaming? Videos games and maybe some art practice. Haven't 100% decided on that yet.

As far as what games? Well, probably Super Mario World. But with a twist! A self-imposed "hardcore" mode, meaning one life, limited powerups, no Yoshi and no exclamation blocks! The furthest I've made it so far is the first Ghost House in World 3.

Come say hi and watch me play like shit!

Oh and stay tuned for art-related stuff I have planned in the future!

EDIT:

thanks to @cyberdevil for bring this to my attention, i never put the link in here like an idiot! HERE YA GOOO

Stream link... where?

lol whoops THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY NO ONE SHOWED UP.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

Now its there!

Haha. XD Good call! I'd tune in a while if it wasn't past midnight in my zone, gotta get up early tomorrow. Some other time!

its all good man, just give me a follow if you want! But i will say, Wednesday, Thursday, every other Friday and Saturday I will be streaming from around 10/11 AM EST to around 3 or 4pm EST. Sunday and Monday I stream around 12PM EST to maybe 8PM. Subject to change of course. Hope to see you there!

Should be plenty of time to tune in there. :) Sounds like you're doing this almost full-time btw, is this your work as well?

I wouldn't say I'm doing it fulltime, but I guess in a way I am. Haven't thought about it like that to e honest. Its one of the things I want to do and I'm just trying to squeeze it in where I can so I still have time for my writing and my art(which I want to combine with streaming eventually). I'm just trying to accomplish my goals and whatnot and work my ass off doing it and its paying off so far, which is awesome. That goes for my art progression as well (there's a long story behind all of that lol).

I don't consider it 'work' in the context of dreading it. I hope to one day be able to make a living from my art and/or streaming so I don't have to work a normal job anymore. I just want to make a living from entertaining people.

About art though: no submissions though? Could be interesting.

Ah, I meant more like if you actually make money off of this, and are able to sustain a loving doing only that which you (I assume, since gaming seems like one of those things you wouldn't do if you didn't) greatly enjoy. :) I guess you're not quite there yet, then? People like Pewdiepie are really living the envious life, just doing whatever they want, and other people follow along! Well, hope you reach that dream someday! Maybe recording your sessions and putting them on YT could be an idea? A stream's a fickle; short-lived thing! Fun in the moment, but no more potential future-viewers on those most fun moments when they've passed.

Btw, what software do you use for streaming like this, with a small webcam included? Or maybe Twitch has it's own app you just run; everything 's set up?

No submissions on Newgrounds? I want to get there eventually, i just don't feel my art is up to snuff, plus the art portal is more for finished works, I haven't felt any of mine have been actually finished.

I don't make money, but maybe eventually. If not, whatever, if so, cool becuse it'll allow me ot focus on entertaining people.

I don't think my PC can handle both recording and streaming unfortunately. But as a theater guy I love the aspect of it being live and if you dont see it, thats that, you know? But I do like the clipping function of Twitch so you can save little moments and stuff. Who knows if i get a more powerful computer I may record and stream and upload to YT.

I use Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) and its open source, so no money required. The webcam I use is a Logitech C920 and it can output in larger dimensions, i just have the source shrunk down so the game can be seen better. Twitch doens't have its own app for streaming itself but its still easy to get software to stream to twitch.

Thanks about the dream stuff, I've been trying to do this kind of thing for 10 years or so now, I can't stop now.

You can submit sketches too, just don't mark for the art portal (there's a checkbox when you submit). That way they'll only show up on your userpage.

That would be cool. :)

Ah, that clipping finesse seems useful. Yeah, there's definitely something special about live! It's like having a real painting on your wall, instead of a print. Probably not that best comparison but... yeah. It's special. If you do try recording btw, I noticed that saving video to a separate HD really cut down on system resource usage!! Probably something most people know, but it was a revelation for me...

Good knowing. I think I've tried that once, attempting to record a live feed. I think I moved to something different, but that's probably not an intended purpose anyway.

10 year anniversary passed yet? That could be something to celebrate with a special stream! :D

Yeah, i should probably just show work in progress stuff more, just the self-doubt sets in and then proceeds to choke me, haha. I may do that for sure.

Clipping is a neat little thing for sure. I do have a separate for all my stuff but it still uses CPU and whatnot. At some point i want to have two computers: one for handling the streaming, the other for handling the actual work, whether its games, art, etc.

OBS is a bit weird at first, but I think they all are. But whatever works for you.

And yeah the 10 year has passed, i dont know the exact date to be honest.

Mmm doubt's a familiar nemesis. Gotta fight that doubt! Strike it out! Rise through clouds and shine on this tyrant rouse like a light in house! I see you put up some stuff already. Nice.

Oh, you can have one computer to stream, and another process the recording? Would they basically just be connected together, each running their own process, so basically just twice the power? Sounds like a single supercomputer would work too. :)

I eventually settled for BSR Screen Recorder to grab the feed, but for streaming games I doubt that'd be a good choice. For recording gameplay though, I use FRAPS. Took a lot of trying out different software there, but it's the perfect balance between lightweight and easy, and good video quality (color balance and everything). It generates pretty large files, but as long as you have space it's great. Also handles virtually any game I've tried. A lot of software had trouble with specific titles, like Oni.

Then you could make up a date for future celebration! :D

Yeh man thats what i try to tell myself. Sometimes i just wanna smash my head into the wall! haha. I appreciate it, and i like your analogy or whatever there. Oh and yep, I did!

Yeah you can, you can go to twitch.tv and i believe there's a help topic on there on how to do but essentially its that. A supercomputer would work for sure, lol.

FRAPs is good for recording, ive used it before if you just want straight gameplay something else for more advanced stuff is needed. I dont know what BSR is. Been a while since I've used FRAPs but i dont really have a use for it at the moment.

I'd probably just use July or something, i dunno lol.

Better be a thin wall! ;) Thanks.

Good knowing.

BSR is a pretty regular desktop recording app, not all that good, but it managed to record some things other programs didn't so I stuck with it. Mmm I wonder what the pro's use...

July sounds like a good time! :D Summer. My birthday. Best month of the year.

I've never heard of BSR. I think the pros use either XSplit or OBS. They both have pros and cons aside from one being free and one costing money.

ha, two of my closest friends birthdays are in July

Good to know.

Hey, cool. :) My mom and grandma were both born in July, though I don't think I know many others.

niiice.
